Vision & Mission

  • Project Vision

Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture (CSIAP) addresses the challenges of building synergies among climate change mitigation, adaptation and food crop production - minimizing their potential negative trade-offs. The urgency and rationale for climate resilient economic development remains extremely important in the context of achieving equitable, efficient and effective outcomes in Sri Lankan agriculture.

  • Project Mission

The proposed project will be implemented in hot spot areas in 11 districts of six provinces in the dry zone of Sri Lanka that have been most affected by the recurrent monsoon failures of recent years. The hot spot areas of these districts account for a total population of 470,000 people and a project area of around 375,000 ha covered in 22 sub watersheds in 15 river basins. The CSAIP is working to enhance the agriculture livelihood of the small scale farmers in the identified hot spot areas . Thus project is aming to improve the climate resilience of farming in hotspot areas while augmenting the water supply to agriculture. The improved production is linked with appropriate market linkages to improve the bread winning o the community.
