Climate Smart Agronomic Improvements Programme

The CSIAP promotes this climate-smart agronomic intervention practices to efficiently use available water resources and soil moisture in productive way by increasing water and crop productivity. Agronomic interventions lead to conserving soil moisture and providing water to fulfil the crop water requirement during the cropping cycle and control weeds. Those practices promote obtaining higher crop productivity. The CSIAP introduces following agronomic improvements to increase farm productivity with the contribution to the climate change adaptation and mitigation

  1. Planting with the onset of Rains
  2. Use drought tolerant & short age crop varieties
  3. Crops mulching
  4. Soil & moisture conservation
  5. Intercropping
  6. Bund cultivation
  7. Organic Manure & Green Manure Production and Application
  8. On-Farm Water Management (eg -Carry out recommended land preparation methods)
  9. Use of rain shelters & polytunnels
  10. Use insect-proof nets
  11. Use Alternate Wetting and Drying (AW&D) technology
  12. Introduction of Farm Machinery
  13. Promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM), etc

During this period, the project has established agronomic intervention in 26657.9 Ha covering hotspot areas in all provinces with the participation of 36586 project farmers.
